About Me

I've been writing for a while now, mostly short stories in various genres, three of which have been published in minor journals. Cold War Dogs is the first novel length story I've written that touches on my experiences growing up in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania; Luanda, Angola; Belgrade, Yugoslavia; and a few short stays in various places in between. It's a story that kept intruding while I was working on another story about Angola. I started doing research for it in 2003 during one of the many slow periods while working at AOL (i.e. AOL was having its regularly scheduled layoffs, and sometimes not much work got done...).

I live in Virginia with two cats (that aren't mine), my wife, and our children. So obviously I have a different non-AOL day job because the children insist on eating. The cats too.

I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a graduate degree from the University of California - Berkeley.

Since I am enamored of timelines, here's a short one for me:
1973 - 1983: Tanzania and Angola
1983 - 1987: Yugoslavia, US, and Angola
1987 - : US
